One of these sites is a half-acre area littered with thousands of shells, remnants of the Native American fishermen who thrived along the Cumberland River. “Instead of being farmers, these Indians were fishermen,” Joey explained, noting the layers of discarded mussel shells and other aquatic life that paint a picture of the area’s ancient lifestyle.

The narrative of the land extends through time, with a second archaeological site that reveals the footings of buildings and an old cistern dating back to the early 1700s. These relics speak of the early settlers’ life and activities in the region, adding a rich historical layer to the resort’s landscape.
